As a matter of fact, I made myself that question more than a few times, but never took the time to try to find an answer, because Ubuntu is a relatively new Distro, it comes from Debian when Mark Shuttleworth, who was part of the Debian project decided that Debian was not focused on the final user as it should, and made its own distribution.

Well, I have found an article which touches some facts about why is Ubuntu so popular today, and we have to say that, in less time than RedHat, Suse, or Debian.

There is some behavior of your Linux Operating System which is easy to change, but not too common to know how.

The things you can change are:

• Frequency to erase /tmp/ directory
• Use UTC or local time
• How Verbose are the boot messages of your Linux
• If a disk error should be always repaired while booting automatically

There are more than those, but I will touch only those, for the rest, you can enter:

man /etc/default/rcS

As some of you may know tomorrow April 22nd is the earth day, and if you are thinking in a way to contribute, you can do by splitting your PC into two, using Linux.

This way your children or spouse will not need an extra PC to work while you are using your PC.

I think that Linux philosophy has a lot to do with earth conservation, and ecology, as we think that software and knowledge should be free, also the nature should be free, free for anyone to enjoy it, but preserving it for future generations, and only for its own use and benefit.

Qemu-Puppy, is a real great tool, you can install it on a USB-key and even boot a PC with it, or use it over any other operating system, so you can take your Linux Operating System with you, together with all your applications and your work, and just borrow a PC upload your applications and you environment, do your tasks, and then return the PC as if nothing has happened.

As you may see, it is a must have tool for those who travel, and like to travel light.

Today I want to write about some of the biggest wonders on the Linux world, this are my thoughts, and they may differ from yours, and they could even change in my mind after reading what you think the 7 Linux world Wonders should be, so please read this post, and the comment about it.

I work a lot at the console level, I even lauch some programs directly from there, and I know there are a lot of users like me.

Somtimes I also open two or even three terminals to monitor differente processes on the same machine or even on different PCs using ssh connection.

Lots of tasks can be done from the console with Linux, like reading email with Pine, browse the web with lynx, and today we see how to chat from the console.

The tool we are going to use for this is centericq, it supports:

• ICQ2000
• Yahoo
• IRC
• MSN
• Gadu-Gadu
• Jabber

If come here regularly, you should have noticed that we are using a new theme, this is one is more versatile, as it has 12 user regions.

It has the normal two columns the center area, the header and footer and also has three user areas between the header and the content area, and below there are other three user's area, between the content area and the footer.

Actually in Go2Linux we are not using header nor footer.

Linux Kernel is for lots of Linux users some kind of "dark side" of the Linux, there is a lot of documentation about it, and maybe because it is too much information some of us are willing to read all of it to better understand the Kernel.

Well there are also a lot of maps of it, but this one is interactive, so can use the wheel mouse or the navigation applet on the left side to zoom in and out, you can pan it to better see all sections.

I have never think about doing a comparison between Windows and Linux but, This post inspired me to write this comparison, side by side, specially
where it says, that windows users says that "Linux is hard to install", so I wanted to test it.
